5 Tips for Buying Business Cards from a Local Printer

Making purchases over the Internet can sometimes be a hassle, especially when it comes to uploading business card designs, ordering samples, and orchestrating shipping. It's possible to avoid these digital obstacles by ordering from a local print shop. Here are five tips for purchasing business cards locally.

  1. Ask for a Recommendation
It is likely you know someone who has purchased business cards locally, so ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers, or others if they have a recommendation of a printer they would use again or a business you should avoid.

  2. Determine a Local Printer’s Reputation
Every state as a Better Business Bureau, and you can quickly determine if the company is in good standing with that organization. There are several other sites that provide customer reviews of services which can also provide you with recommendations and information.

  3. Know Your Budget
Before you go to a print shop, know how much you’re willing to spend for a specific number of cards. There are many options for card stock and ink types, and some can be expensive. No matter how great a card looks, if you don’t want to give it away because it cost too much to print, you won’t reap the benefits you're looking for.

  4. Bring Your Graphics with You
If you have a specific logo, color requirement, photograph, or other unique graphic you want on your cards, bring both a printed and an electronic copy with you.

Use the print copy to discuss your needs and to assure that when you say the word “blue,” for instance, both you and the printer understand exactly what shade and saturation you want. Let the business representative upload a digital copy of your requirements so it can be used to create your cards.

  5. Ask for Discounts
Many print shops offer special discounts or have coupons available that you might not be aware of. It never hurts to ask, and it can help keep you on budget.
