How to Find a Job Overseas

Visiting another country is amazing, and getting a job overseas can be one of the best experiences of your life. Whether you just need a new environment, or you want to make use of the international business class you took in college, here are four ways you can get a job overseas.

Teach Abroad
Teaching English is one of the most popular ways of working abroad. If you are a native English speaker, you can get great pay, fun work, and sometimes fantastic benefits. The best way to get such a position is to get a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, or CELTA. Most countries require this certificate to teach in their nation, but it's simple to earn. Cambridge makes it easy for you to get this degree online or at a center near you. It has 24 centers in the United States and two international online teaching houses to help you obtain your CELTA.

Paid Volunteer Programs
There are a number of programs that pay expenses for all college graduates while they're abroad. One outstanding program you can join is Peace Corps. Working for Peace Corps gives you experience and contacts you can use to get a permanent position in the country of your choice. Whether you want to work in Albania, Ethiopia, or Panama, there are openings available in different fields such as agriculture, health, environment, education, and more.

There are also ways you can go overseas with religious organizations to teach in non-missionary programs. Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Church of the Brethren, and Mennonite Central Committee are three organizations that will provide you with experience working with people overseas using a variety of skills.

Study Abroad
Studying abroad can last anywhere from a month to several years—it’s completely up to you. In many situations, you can live with a family in another country throughout your study abroad experience while earning your degree. Most schools have programs where you can go to any partnered university in another country. You can discover your options by speaking to your university’s study abroad department.

If you aren’t currently enrolled in college, you can earn a bachelor's or master's degree with study abroad programs such as School for International Training and International Partnership for Service Learning (IPSL). At School for International Training, you can earn an undergraduate or graduate degree while getting experience. The program has more than 70 programs in 30 countries.

IPSL is an alternative organization you can choose. Service learning is about getting experience through action. This type of program focuses on learning on the job. With IPSL, you can earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree while making lifelong contacts that will make international business accessible. From Argentina to Vietnam, you can choose from more than 15 different countries including Ireland, Italy, Peru, France, and more.
