Finding a Job After HVAC Training

You have taken your classes and passed your tests, and now it has come time to find a job in the HVAC field. If you are like most people, however, you don't know where to start. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for those going into HVAC is expected to rise by 21% during the next decade. What does this mean for you? It means that the jobs are out there, and you just need to find them. Below are some ways to find a job in HVAC after you have completed your training.

Use HVAC Job Websites

One way to find a job following your HVAC training is to utilize an HVAC job website. There are a several job sites out there devoted to HVAC jobs, such as HVACagent.com, TheHVACsource.com, and MEPjobs.com. Of course, there are general job-search websites that can also be quite helpful when it comes to finding work in the field. These include Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, and Simplyhired.com. If you are going to use these sites, it is important that you not only have a polished profile on them, but also that you have a solid resume outlining your experience.

Consider HVAC Networks and Conferences

Another way to find a job in HVAC is to reach out to professional HVAC networks and participate in any conferences that may be near your area. Many times organizations such as the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) or the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) will have job listings on their sites. You also might want to attend an event held by these organizations. Attending will not only give you insight into the field, but these events are also outstanding ways to network with others in your field.

Talk to Your HVAC School About Placement

Finally, you might find that you have job placement right at your fingertips through your HVAC school. Many HVAC training schools will have job placement services for their students. Usually this works well because the school has already established a relationship with local HVAC businesses, and these businesses know the students they hire have the education they need. Not all schools have these programs, however. If yours does not, it may not hurt to talk to some instructors about work. You never know who they may know in the field that can help you out.

These are only a few ways that you can find work in the HVAC field following your training. There are other ways, too. For example, reach out to any HVAC professionals that you know to ask if they know of anyone looking. Another option you have is to cold call HVAC companies in the area to ask if they are hiring. Keep at it and don't give up; the perfect HVAC job for you could be right around the corner.
